  • What is the Career Compass? Why is MOM producing this guide?
The Career Compass is the Ministry of Manpower’s career guide for students. It is designed to give students a better understanding of the opportunities in the current and future job market, to help them make more informed choices on their courses of study and careers.

  • Who does the Career Compass help?
The Career Compass is designed to help students make more informed choices on their courses of study at the point of entry into our educational institutions, as well as when they are about to graduate and embark upon their careers. Career guidance counsellors will also find the Career Compass useful when advising students.

  • What information does the Career Compass provide?
The guide provides comprehensive and forward-looking information on careers, jobs and skills in demand. It covers industry and manpower trends as well as occupational information such as skills needed, employment conditions and wages. Apart from offering information on industry outlook and career pathways, it will also provide links to job preparation and career planning tools, as well as to government assistance progrsmmes to help students for their chosen careers.

  • How is the Career Compass put together?
The guide is the result of close collaboration amongst many government agencies, such as the Economic Development Board, Monetary Authority of Singapore, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Trade And Industry, Singapore Tourism Board, Singapore Workforce Development Agency and Ministry of Manpower.

  • What are the sources of information (such as wages) contained within and is the information reliable?
The information comes from government surveys, partnering government agencies, as well as publicly available sources. While we strive to be as accurate and timely as possible, users should note that labour market conditions may have changed since the production of the guide. While every reasonable effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of the data presented, MOM makes no warranty or guarantee as to the accuracy or completeness of the data provided.

  • How are the projected job creation numbers derived? Are these projections accurate?
The job creation projections are based on government agencies’ industry plans and visible pipeline of investments. The actual number of jobs eventually created would be influenced by a range of factors, including prevailing economic conditions and actualization of project investments. The projections are intended as an indication of the relative opportunities between different sectors.

  • Where can I get more information on the courses required for these jobs?
The Career Compass includes indicative information on the qualifications typically required for the jobs identified. For further information on specific courses, users may wish to visit the websites of the Universities, Polytechnics and Institute of Technical Education (ITE).

  • Are there plans to product a similar guide for adults?
